Have you ever heard of a rock band from Hungary? Well
now I have, Budapest to be exact. That's were Stereochrist is from and
let me tell you, you would never tell from their sound that they were.
So what kind of music would a rock band from Budapest play? Southern (USA)
stoner rock ala Corrosion of Conformity and Down, that's what.
This album was really good considering the genre. I'm real iffy when it
comes to stoner rock. I'm into COC, Down, and all of that, but some stoner
bands just go on for too long and get annoying. That's not the case with
Stereochrist, all the song's are in the 3 to 4 minute range and never
drag on. The rhythm section is solid. The guitar work is a Gibson SG fat,
deep, rockin' sound with Iommi's name all over it. Some of the guitar
harmonies reminded me of stuff off of COC's Deliverance. The vocals grabbed
me on this CD. The singer is really good. He has a powerful voice that
fits the music perfectly and sounds a lot like Gene Simmons.
Overall this is a solid CD. If you're into the stoner rock thing you won't
be disappointed. In fact anyone who is into some good ol' rock would like
this one.
