| STEREOCHRIST (ex-Mood) - Dead River Blues After Hungarian doom-rock legends Mood broke up a few years back, their singer went on to form Wall of Sleep, a band that has gotten some talk on these boards, and deservedly so. But I always wondered what the other musicians from Mood got up to. The guys who came up with all those great riffs. Well, now I know. They formed a band called Super Natural in May, 2002 and later changed their name to STEREOCHRIST. The bassist, drummer and one of the guitarists from Mood grabbed themselves a new singer and pumped out another album full of great doom-rock goodness. If Wall of Sleep took Mood`s sound and added a dash more Doom to the mix, then Stereochrist has taken Mood and added a sprinkle of metal and a touch of rock. Still in the same ballpark as those two, but a little more upbeat, a tad more crunchy. This album is chock full of greasy riffs and subtle melodies. Track 3, "Mind Ammo", is the highlight of the album. It features a super-chunky riff with some great groove and a chorus that sneakily worms its way into your head so that you`re singing it to yourself without even realizing it. One of those songs that you just have to turn up the stereo for every time it comes on. The rest of the tracks follow a similar pattern, with the exception of track 7 "Supersorrow", which is a moody acoustic piece. So if you like Mood, Wall of Sleep,
Down, "Wiseblood"-era COC and others of that ilk, then Stereochrist
is a band you need to check out. This one definitely floated in under
the radar but is well worth checking out. The only place I`ve seen it
for sale is the Psychedoomelic Store, so clicky below and enjoy.
